Potential new lives coming into the world right now. - Mood:Good
Tuesday May 12 20091:38:21 PM |
My female mali uromastyx is in the process of laying her yearly clutch of eggs right now. I've seen this happen for the last 3 years at least and it still holds amazement for me every time.
After she's done, I've got to go collect them up and put them in the incubator so they can hatch. It'll take about 2 1/2 months before little babies start walking around.
I've also got to call my father-in-law and tell him about the new arrivals. It appears he's been a closet herper for a while now. XD
I wonder how many eggs she'll have this time? She had 29 last year.

Got my own internet back. - Mood:Good
Monday May 11 20093:06:25 PM |
It's funny how much we take accessing the internet from home for granted, or even how much we use the internet for to begin with.
I guess the rule of thumb is that if your modem's going to die, it'll never do it at the beginning of the week.

I suppose the older generation doesn't really care about the internet because they've had no reason to communicate with people outside of their province (or state) before. So many more international friendships are being formed and the phone bills would kill. Most businesses have people fill out job applications on their websites rather than strolling into their building to drop off a resume. Being able to find an obscure book that your local bookstore probably won't carry is no issue.
Forums like this are also fun too.

Modem dead. Accessing from an internet cafe sucks. - Mood:Exhausted
Sunday May 10 200912:42:31 PM |
Two dollars and fifty cents for accessing the internet in some hole somewhere. That's what I'm reduced to until Monday, and that's after I told Bell to rush the order on Friday. Why can't things break down at the beginning of the week instead of at the end of it?

So very tired, not sleeping well. Haven't eaten much in the last week. Personally, I can see an upside to it. It's kind of nice to only live on one stick of celery or an apple for the entire day, cheaper too.
Between exercise and not needing food, losing a few pounds should be pretty easy, just wish the weather would be comfortable again.

Too bad I'm not going to be able to read this until sometime tomorrow (hopefully, it gets here on time). I guess there are worse things, right?

Is there any way to prevent depression from taking hold? - Mood:Depressed
Tuesday May 05 20092:08:24 PM |
Obviously, if you have it, you have it. That's really easy. But I'm talking about if you don't have it, but you feel like you're starting to slip into it. Is there any way to stave it off before it takes a serious hold or are you doomed either way?

Why does life like kicking me around? - Mood:Depressed
Friday March 27 20093:31:09 PM |
So now there's an issue with my EI. Best case scenario, I get it. Worst case scenario, I don't get a measly cent.
Every time I try to start again, life kicks me back to the starting gate again. Again and again, I try. Failure every time. I can't seem to get anywhere in life anymore. Every time something finally goes my way, something else stops it and makes me go three steps back.

Had I just lied and cheated my way through life like everyone else, I wouldn't be in this mess.
Let this be a lesson kids, being honest gets you nothing.

About depression. - Mood:Depressed
Wednesday March 25 20094:43:32 PM |
Kind of a serious journal. I'm sure people will post all sorts of unrelated comments, but that's ok.

How long have you been depressed before you realized that were actually deeply depressed and required meds for it? How long does it take after taking the meds do you start to feel better? Is there anything anyone can do to help someone who is depressed?

Thank you for helping me out.

What`s for supper? - Mood:Mischievous

Sure, it's not made yet, but it'll be really tasty when it's done. Nothing beats a nice moose roast.

Don't click the spoiler if unprepared meat makes you uneasy.

A $250 electric toothbrush for free? Amazing! - Mood:Surprised
Friday February 27 200912:58:52 PM |
How much do we hate dentists? I imagine quite a lot. But sometimes we forget that give breaks from time to time.

I called about getting a high quality toothbrush to reduce gum recession, knowing the high price tag. The price I was quoted from buying it through them was about $150 cheaper than anywhere else! Turns out, they sell all brushes at cost.
To make things even better, if the dentist recommends the use of this for better oral care, it can be covered by a person's dental insurance.

Looks like I'll be getting a brand new, top of the line toothbrush for free. Sweet!

I got a job interview! - Mood:Happy
Thursday February 19 20097:45:02 PM |
I've been without a job for just over a week now, and just today I get a phone call about a job interview on Tuesday. I'm so happy! I know I can do this job well and will be happy in it. Sure, it might not happen but I'll give it my all. It's nice that there's still some hope.

I never thought I could be happy about losing a job. - Mood:Depressed
Tuesday February 10 20092:48:09 PM |
The only thing I feel bad about is not being able to pull in money for what we need.
I made very little, worked long hours, and was bitched at for everything. I don't think they really know how much I actually did for them. I was invisible to them. This was the last straw.
I'm actually kind of happy because it means that now I can get some much-needed sleep (I'm not a robot!) and keep looking for a better job.

Who here has dealt with clinical depression? - Mood:Depressed
Tuesday December 16 20084:17:26 PM |
I certainly don't expect all the answers to be serious, as plenty of people just like to ramble on in threads like these.

If you have dealt with it (yourself or dealt with someone else who has it), can you tell me a bit about what it's like and what you did to get yourself (or another person) out of it?

Obviously, going to see a therapist or taking antidepressants is a last resort.

A question for those of you who have tattoos - Mood:Spent
Monday January 28 20089:39:48 PM |
When tipping your artist, how much do you pay? What is the industry standard percentage of the tip?

Also, when getting a large tattoo done in multiple sessions, do you tip per session for amount of work done or do you give the full tip at the end of the last session?

Thanks.

Got a barbecue at long last! - Mood:Happy
Saturday May 12 20073:10:43 PM |
And it was on sale too! Nice stuff. Bought a large propane tank to go with it. Finally, we'll be able to have our steaks rare again.

Hubby and I also bought the seedlings we need for our garden. Tonight, we're seeing Spiderman 3 on the IMAX. Should be a lot of fun.

What are you all doing tonight?

How much do you spend on groceries per month? - Mood:Spent
Tuesday April 17 20077:18:55 PM |
Hubby was having this conversation with some people at work. Since it's just him and I together, we calculated our groceries to be $250 - $300 per month (that doesn't include take-out).
His co-workers were very surprised that we only spend that much. Others in two-person households spend $500 - $750 per month on food. That seems like a lot to me!

So tell me, how much do you spend on groceries per month? Also, how many people do you have living in your household?

The morning after - Mood:Good
Sunday March 18 20074:36:39 PM |
I got a pretty good night's sleep last night. The gatorade helped a lot. I wasn't even sick. It was a fun night, lots o' Irish stuff going on.
My friends really are great people. Hubby and I have been buddies with them since college.

I hope everyone had a good St. Patrick's Day yesterday.

Miscarriage at 5 months? - Mood:Surprised
Tuesday March 13 20076:57:49 PM |
Hubby's co-worker is going to be a no-show for a while. She got pregnant 5 months ago and was really happy about it. Now, he gets a call today saying she can't be at work for a while because she just had a miscarriage.
My question is: why would someone be gone for so long after a miscarriage? I was always under the impression that these things were over relatively quickly.
Also, how is the dead fetus removed? Do the docs allow it to pass naturally or is surgery the only option? I'm just curious because I've never heard of a miscarriage at 5 months.

I drink 2% filtered milk.

I think the beast is finally ready to roar - Mood:Happy
Tuesday February 13 20075:10:45 PM |
At last. Had to return the videocard I just bought a few hours ago because the computer doesn't have a PCI-e x 16 slot, just a PCI-e x 1 slot. What the hell?! Why bother making that stupid slot if nothing's going to fit in it anyways? Stupid computer sh*t!

I did manage to find a good card that will fit in the AGP slot (ATI Radeon X1300) and it costs the same as the ATI Radeon X700. Meh, at least something panned out. It should run well with the additional 512 MB of RAM I bought too.

The next time the computer needs (and I mean NEEDS) an upgrade, the motherboard will have to be the first thing to change.

I dread to think how much a computer technician would have charged me for his services.

The computer is officially on life support - Mood:Indifferent
Wednesday January 31 20079:20:45 PM |
My sister-in-law's boyfriend came by to have a look at our computers for us (he works for IBM). He managed to get mine up and running again. Now that I have XP on it, it needs a hell of a lot more RAM.

Masterladon's computer is living on borrowed time. The hard drive is finished and needs to be replaced. Hopefully, that's the only thing that's been causing all these problems. The next step after that is to buy a new monitor (since we only have one that works). We're looking at some nice 19" LCD flatscreens.
I'm crossing my fingers that everything will be done this weekend.

Just once I`d like someone to have the balls to say... - Mood:Indifferent
Friday January 12 20071:48:44 PM |
"No, your baby isn't the cutest thing I've ever seen. In fact, that has to be the ugliest child I've ever seen. Please stop drawing attention to that abomination".

I understand that new moms are all excited about their kids but damn, can't we call a spade a spade? If you've got an ugly kid, don't go shoving the "Isn't he/she so cute?" into everybody else's face. Maybe it's about time we tell these moms the truth instead of lying to them?

Your thoughts.
