I believe anyone can write a book if they put their mind to it, novel or otherwise. It seems like such a simple thing from my perspective. But I'm sure its not that simple.

I also don't know if you have to have a certain degree or something to get your book published.

Everyone has their own personal experiences so I think anyone could write a great book. Will there always be better novels yes, but anyone could.

depends on how well you can string words together.

Some people can't write at all.

Agree.
Anyone can write a wonderful book, with the proper teaching, talent, and just a hint of randomness.
Unfortunately not all people have been able to unlock this, although EVERYONE has it.
So, yes, anyone CAN, but very few SUCSESSFULLY DO.
I am working on a book as well....
So I am testing MY ability, and with experience, that ability will become even better.
GOSH MY COMMENTS ARE LONG LATELY.

Disagree. Because I'm pretty sure I can't do it.

Define 'good'.
9 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Tuesday 11/27/12 - 11:43:45 AM EST (GMT-5)
I totally disagree.
Even the majority of the books that actually ARE written are crap. To write a good bok you need imagination, writing skills and motivation. Although many people have some of that only a few combine all three to a degree that will result in a great output.

I'm sure anyone could, with enough help. But working alone? No, I don't agree. Some people would certainly require more help than others.

If anyone could write a GOOD book then we wouldn't have Twilight.
9 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Tuesday 11/27/12 - 6:32:20 PM EST (GMT-5)
No one in the world can write a book that everyone thinks is good.
9 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Tuesday 11/27/12 - 6:58:24 PM EST (GMT-5)
Everyone thinks they can write a good book. Very few of them actually can.
9 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Tuesday 11/27/12 - 8:09:34 PM EST (GMT-5)
I very much disagree. There are many people who can barely string a sentence together.

Though I suppose I can play devil's advocate and say that a stupid person could write a stupid book that an equally stupid person could define as "good".

If Stephanie Meyer can do it, I think anyone can.

A lot of guys keep saying here how there's people in the world who can't write at all.

I guess this goes to show how sheltered I am and that I take my education for granted.
9 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Tuesday 11/27/12 - 11:28:37 PM EST (GMT-5)
Not everyone can speak the English language properly or even well, so how can they write a "good" book?

Book need wrote. <<<<<<<<< AAARRRRGGGHHH!!!

Depends on the person.

I know I can't write a good book. I can write a book just not a good one

Not everyone has the will to write.
9 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Sunday 12/2/12 - 7:28:16 AM EST (GMT-5)
You need a lot of imagination, and a very well thought out story line and characters. You can't just come up with a couple of random people and a few events and call it a book. You need a lot of planning and sophistication when writing. So my opinion is that everyone can write a book, whether its good or not depends.

Depends on your definition of a good book. Millions of people from all around the world think Twilight is great. And if a book can sell millions and inspire people from various cultures, I think there has to be something good in it.

Millions of people can be wrong.
9 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Sunday 12/2/12 - 2:12:29 PM EST (GMT-5)
Millions of people can be wrong if they say 2+2=5.
Millions of people can't be wrong if they say "I liked the book". And the book isn't good because millions of people say it's good but because millions of people say they liked the book.
9 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Sunday 12/2/12 - 2:26:01 PM EST (GMT-5)
Well, there is a difference between "I liked the book" and "The book is good." Twilight is, technically, very poorly written. That doesn't stop lots of people liking it, as you rightly point out. Lots of people do. But I'd say that makes it well-liked rather than good.
9 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Sunday 12/2/12 - 11:42:40 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'm sure more people enjoy "Call me maybe" than Debussy's Parfum. That doesn't mean "Call me maybe" is the better piece of music.
9 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Thursday 12/6/12 - 9:28:23 PM EST (GMT-5)
If someone really wanted to, then they could.
I'm only 14 but I already have two people volunteering to help publish the hovel I'm working on.
