A quote from Col Max Radl (Robert Duvall) in the classic 1976 film, "The Eagle has Landed". He was applying the thought to a plan to kidnap Churchill, but it could apply to any walk of life. I tend to agree - if the outcome is desired, it is worth working towards no matter how unlikely success seems. On another note: Gentlemen may want to watch this film just to see a young Jenny Agutter playing the character of Molly. A brilliant film. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074452...

Why? Because people should know their limits. If the outcome is desired, with dismal likelihood, I think it's better not to pursue something 'by hook or by crook'. It's a sort of extremism that does not take into account rationality and logic. Sometimes, getting to that desired outcome "no matter the cost" can lead to deleterious effects, if not on the perpetrator, but on others - and if this ignores ethical issues, it is the work of a psychopath.
