Only if the intruder is armed.

I think people should definitely have the means to defend themselves, but to do it with deadly force seems stupid to me. I don't understand why non-lethal means of incapacitation aren't a bigger thing.

Why would any decent human being want to kill another in order to save inanimate objects?
Someone wants to rob my house, I'll pop outside for a while, let them take my sh*t.
They threaten me or my family however and I'll get all arse kicky.

I believe if you are legitimately in fear of losing your life you should be able to defend yourself. I don't think that the intruder needs to be armed either. What if the robber is a young healthy male and the home owner is an elderly female. He could easily beat her to death with his own hands.

As a Colorado resident, I have the right to use deadly force with an intruder.

Should you be allowed that right, do you think?
You should be allowed to use as much force as it takes to stop them, should it come to self-defense. If that includes accidentally killing them instead of incapacitating them, then you're both unlucky. You should never being aiming to end someone's life.

I knew the first man to take advantage of that law in Colorado.
Yes, I think I should be allowed that right.
Nobody has the right to come in my home without my permission.

If someone breaks into my house, I'm not going to wait around and see what they want to do.

If they make it out of the house alive, are you still allowed to kill them?

I'm baffled at how you people can't understand self defense.

I could see someone arguing that objects inside the building constitute the home. If they remove those objects from the building, you'd be protecting your home by getting them back. I call it the Big Lebowski defense.

Or what if you put mines down before you left the house? No self defense there.

If people are allowed to use deadly force against a home intruder than I think it could give a lot of really sick or prejudice people a reason to kill some ignorant kid just looking for some extra cash or trespassing on their yard.

Home intruder = went into the HOME, not the YARD.

And if the kid is looking for some extra cash, he can borrow his dad's lawn mower and actually WORK for it.

I assumed the kid looking for extra cash would be doing something like offering to mow lawns. Knock on the door of one of those sick people and they're dead.

Yeah in a perfect world, that's exactly what a kid would do. But unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world and kids do break into other people's homes looking for a steal.
And any person intruding on a home unarmed probably has no intent of harming anyone. I think people should be able to defend themselves. Heck, knock the intruder out or shoot out his knee. I just don't think people should have the right to murder someone who clearly has no intentions of hurting anyone.

When someone breaks into my home, I'm not going to start a conversation with the intruder. I am going to kill him.

No one said anything about having a conversation with the intruder.
And you're going to murder an unarmed and practically harmless citizen then? That's real inhumane and f*cked up.

In the case I mentioned, an elderly woman's home being invaded by a younger man would that be wrong of her to shoot him when threatened within an inch of your life? Clearly, she can't defend herself with physical prowess, the gun is her only safe haven.
