Yes and no. Everyone has free will. And by someone else changing their life, it could affect mine. Having said that, I can change my destiny and be in control of it through my attitude and perspective on things..

I read the poem. I think Whitman captures the will of the spirit in a spiritual way. This guy is attempting to claim a power of spirit. Rather than a force of will within the spirit. Or accompanied by the spirit.
Whitman also ties it to nation as well. Or maybe just to Earth. But I think ultimately it’s the natural of America. Not just straight up transcendental nature.

I think we are within and building our destiny. But conscious action and will is probably only a minor factor within the outcome. But a necessary skill to have to allow your destiny to be fulfilled. Your purpose is only partially ever revealed but I do believe that everyone has a purpose that we can pursue.
