Probably having someone close dying. I try not to think about my own death.

Someone else dying.

Facing death myself.

When other people die it doesn't have much of an effect on me. My reaction is just like, "Oh well. They're just not there anymore."

I've always been aware of my own mortality, though. I've been worrying about death ever since I was about 7 years old. When I was a child, I used to try not to sleep because I thought if I slept too much that I would die. I had all sorts of odd ideas like that.

Shakira - why worry, it happens to everyone ! get on with life.

Having someone else die. Near brushes with death make you gasp and your heart beat faster, but eventually it all subsides.

Facing death. I tend to worry about other people when other people die.

Neither, really... I'm always aware of my mortality. I've accepted it and that fact that someday I am going to die. And i get on with my life, and enjoy it, and I know when someone dies that all things come to an end.

I faced my own death a few months when I had a stroke, but it didn't scare me. The death of a loved one would be horrible.

having a close one die.
when you turn 30, getting older isn't that bad. But losing friends, family, mentors, collegues... that's the hard part.
I lost so many recently that at one point I didn't want to be close to anyone anymore.

well i havent faced death so i wouldnt know....i would think that having someone close to you die would act as a wake up call to your own mortality as you start to think that if it can happen to someone you know it could happen to you

I think actually seeing some one else die. I saw my best friend get murdered and now i treasure every day that I'm alive and I really see how precious my life is!

17 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Tuesday 6/21/05 - 12:06:39 AM EST (GMT-5)
I don;t know, i've never faced death before.
17 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Tuesday 6/21/05 - 12:07:26 AM EST (GMT-5)
I think I would be more aware of my own mortality if I faced death personally. I've had people I know die, and, though it is sad, it doesn't make me think about my mortality. If I were to narrowly miss being killed or dying, I think I'd be more likely to take a step back and look at my life.

I agree with that. Having someone close to you die usually has a longer lasting emotional affect on a person.

I would assume having someone real close to you die.

Someone's death.
Facing death is more likely to make one believe that they are invincible.

Having someone close to me dying makes me aware of the mortality of others more than myself. Facing death would make me realise my own mortality.

My granny passing most definitely made me more aware of my mortality. Even though I knew that no one lives forever I honestly thought that my granny would as she had been through so much but it wasn't until she passed that I realized that anyone could go at any time.

Facing death yourself. 8 months ago, I was involved in a terrible head-to-head collision with a truck, and I was very lucky to get out of it alive. Since then, I have realised that life is short, and could end at any moment. I have decided to spend more time helping others, instead of being egocentric (I admit that this is what I was like before). I believe that having a near-death experience has caused me to become more aware of my own mortality, and to therefore, become a better person.

I've felt like I've faced death (I had a total panic attack) and to be honest, it scares the life out of you.
