Or Saint Paul--blue collar, Mississippi River town, full of ethnic neighborhoods with bars on every corner, home of Garrison Keillor, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Sinclair Lewis? Question Who's Online | Find Members | Private Messages

My Dad lives in Minneapolis. It's a great city and very progressive. I like Saint Paul too though, kind of older with lots of row houses.

I've lived in both St.Paul and Minneapolis... it depends on what part of the city your in. However I prefer the more openmindedness of Minneapolis to the blue collar St.Paul.

Haven't been to either but St. Paul sounds better.

haven't been to either, but I'd have to guess that I'd prefer St. Paul.

My mother's best friend lives around the twins. Maybe I'll visit both someday.

I love the openness of Minneapolis and all of the lakes, but at the neighborhood level I think that St. Paul is a much more charming city.

St. Paul is filled with Victorian houses and it incorporates the Mississippi River into the city unlike Minneapolis which tries to face away from it.

I haven't really been to either, but I'll go with Minneapolis because, I've driven through it when I was 8.

I've been to Minneapolis and enjoyed it in the early summer. Hated it in mid winter!

who or what?
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 8/25/03 - 10:32:24 AM EST (GMT-5)
When I was there, I recall that St. Paul had more little places to eat and shop, and everything was nearby. Minneapolis unnavagable without a car.

Thanks for postion such a great questions. I was raised in both St. Paul and Minneapolis. If you are a bit older I think most would enjoy St. Paul. The younger generation Minneapolis is more for you. Even the University of Minnesota reflects on the difference of the to cities. I love Minneapolis though. It's where I go to get away. And Downtown Minneapolis just rocks! As for Downtown St. Paul not so great. But I love the Twin Cities, there is something for everybody. I miss home already.

I Prefer Minneapolis. St Paul to me anyway, seems to be a bit more seedy. I do like Summit Avenue, but besides that, St PAul doesn't have much.

Minneapolis on the other hand HAs Northeat, The Trio Of LAkes, Uptown, Nicolette Mall, Riverplace, St. Anthony MAin etc... Minneapolis is more of a Metropolitan city. St. Paul reminds me of a Suburb that has grown to be a good sized city. Not to mention the roads in St. PAul might as well have been layed out by Drunk Irishmen.

Explodo, St. Paul was around before Minneapolis was a village. St. Paul has maintained much of it old architecture, not just on Summit Avenue, but around Cathedral Hill, Selby-Dale, Crocus Hill, Eastside, etc. Minneapolis just rips everything up and builds new.

Sure, Frogtown and the University Avenue areas are seedy, but Lake Street and the whole Phillips neighborhood in Minneapolis are far seedier than anything in St. Paul. In my opinion, Como Park and Lake Como are much nicer than any of the Chain of Lakes in Minneapolis too.

NOthing like Reisdents complaining about their respected areas of Abode :D

St. PAul is as nice as anywhere else. I simply prefer Minneapolis. No big deal. BTW, You could have ripped me a new ass in regards to North Minneapolis.

St. Paul is a great place to raise a family. Especially Como and Highland area. Both areas where I lived.

If you are a wild child like myself most would prefer Minneapolis. It all really depends on your personality.

I live in the Highland area now, when I do go out I find myself venturing off to Minneapolis usually Uptown or Downtown.

17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Tuesday 8/26/03 - 3:00:25 PM EST (GMT-5)
I have yet to go to both.

'And you won't find a back room at our video stores, no sir! We leave that trash to the Sin Cities (aka Minneapolis/St. Paul)'
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Thursday 8/28/03 - 3:12:21 AM EST (GMT-5)
Wasn't Sinclair Lewis from Sauk Center? Anyways, I like St. Paul better because of the aforementioned policy Minneapolis has towards tearing down the old and building new. Also, of all the major cities with a riverfront, Minneapolis has neglected theirs the most.
17 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Friday 8/29/03 - 4:32:17 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don't know what you guys are talking about. Minneapolis has one of the nicest riverfronts of any city I've ever been to. That whole area on the north side of the Mississippi from downtown that connects to Nicollet Island and over to the Stone Arch Bridge with the waterfalls on the river is one of the great places in the US.

The view of the city against the river from the north bank is quite stunning.

Also the Chain of Lakes is an urban park area like no other in the country which connects over to the Minnehaha Falls. The Nicollet Mall is one of the great urban streets of the US and the area around the Sculpture Garden is very beautiful too. Minneapolis is a hidden gem.

St.Paul is really nice and has a quaint, older atmosphere, but Minneapolis is an amazingly beautiful city.

I'd probably enjoy St. Paul.
