This said, the short fiction had all great qualities. The German one achieved to build up so much tension in such short time.

The Australian is hilarious and great aesthetics.

The US one (highschool) is incredibly well acted.

And My Nephew Emmett is beautifully shot and so sad.

I was more at that than its Best Picture win, tbh.

well that too obviously

There was a lot of chatter about Allison Janney's performance being one-note, but tbh I've watched a bunch of interviews with LaVona Golden and that is just straight-up how she is, at least as a public persona. She looks like a sketch comedy performance of the worst stage mother ever, but it honestly is as true to life as she lets anyone see.
I know a lot of people wanted Laurie Metcalf to win Best Supporting Actress, and she was genuinely really good, too. It's almost a shame that they were nominated in the same year.

i thought the silent child was a bit too didactic

i wish it didn’t have that whole “THIS IS WHY” thing at the end

also the kobe one? rly?

and the psychologist one was dope but also not terribly ambiguous

my faves were my nephew emmett and the animated one with the luggage. it was just so poetic imo.

The kobe one is the German movie about the hijacked bus?
3 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Monday 3/5/18 - 3:24:39 AM EST (GMT-5)
oh sorry no i liked that one a lot too

the kobe one was the animated basketball short
3 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Monday 3/5/18 - 3:26:56 AM EST (GMT-5)
didn’t see the animated ones.

i laughed so much at the psychologist one.

the psychologist one was very funny! i just wish it were a bit less obvious.

the animated ones weren’t too spectacular this year.

That is also fair. The presenters aren't responsible for who wins. They're just the messenger.

I don’t blame the presenters: I blame whoever wrote the message.

I don't watch the Oscars usually and I was jet-lagged, so I saw none of the show last night, tbh.

CMBYN is definitely a wonderful adaptation as I just finished reading the book on my last flight yesterday, so that was well-deserved.

Dunkirk deserved the sound-related wins. Seeing that movie in the theater was a hell of an experience, tbh.

Fish f*cking aside, I guess I'll have to see The Shape of Water to see what the fuss is all about.

There was a 16% drop of viewership from last year’s ceremony. I'm guessing its because so few people saw the nominated movies. It's actually the first time I've missed most of it, though I did record all of it.

i bet plenty of people watched it on Hulu or through an app. i don't know if they track it
3 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Wednesday 3/7/18 - 11:49:06 AM EST (GMT-5)
I think people are also turned off by how political it’s become.
3 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Wednesday 3/7/18 - 11:55:22 AM EST (GMT-5)
OR how long and tediously self congratulating.
3 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Wednesday 3/7/18 - 12:25:25 PM EST (GMT-5)
I've always said they could cut out the less popular categories to shorten it. I don't really care about make-up or editing, etc.
3 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Wednesday 3/7/18 - 12:29:11 PM EST (GMT-5)
Instead they cut down the time on the acceptance speeches. Um... people DO want to hear the acceptance speeches. Especially for the big stuff like best actor, actress, director, picture.

Besides, this is one of the biggest moments in their lives. Let them relish it and enjoy it. Not to mention it's super rude to cut somebody off mid-sentence.

Well, that's you. The people who work in those fields do care and work hard in the movie industry just like actors and actresses, even if you don't see them.

How rude.

I'm sure they work very hard, as do the people in the other categories. But some categories are more popular than others, so I'm just suggesting cut out the less popular ones to shorten the show and stop cutting off speeches.

You can always give out those less popular awards in an awards ceremony prior to the main ceremony.
3 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Wednesday 3/7/18 - 4:22:13 PM EST (GMT-5)
Or we could just have a five hour show each year, and viewers can just skip the first three hours. (provided they don't insert popular categories at the beginning)
