i saw Good Time and it's right behind Dunkirk as my favorite film of the year. fantastic. Robert Pattinson's performance is revelatory and the entire thing is just a nonstop, manic, exhaustive sprint. it's beautiful in its ugliness and ugly in its beauty. what a terrible, unrelenting amazing movie that i don't think i can watch again

Naked

it wasnt terrible and id go as far to say it was really kinda fun and had me laughing at a few points even. it definitely had some sort of heart to it even if it isnt that great of a movie.

i saw two horror movies:

it comes at night
and
a dark song

and they were both pretty good. nice slow burns, shedloads of atmosphere between them

i feel like a dark song was pretty flawed in some ways but had some stuff i really admired in it

We actually went to the movies today and saw Dunkirk. We both enjoyed it and we got to sit in those big cushy "relaxed" chairs. There wasn't a lot of dialogue in the movie but you still got a feel for all the characters. A lot of emotions drummed up

It Comes at Night is one of my favorite films of the year

i saw Logan Lucky and was pretty disappointed

the cast was great
they all had chemistry and did the heavy lifting
god bless Daniel Craig

but the humor was way too inconsistent (the weirder the humor was or the more it relied on the cast, the more it worked. the more 'durr hurr rednecks dont get technology!' or pop culture jokes, the less it worked)

also it had more holes in it than swiss cheese. i can ignore some plot holes or some lack of logic, but not a f-cking parade of it

so aside from some solid jokes (the bear) and fantastic cast work it was pretty 'eh'

Been on a bit of a comedy kick

Watched Ace Ventura again for this first time since I was young. I still knew like the whole movie because I watched it so much as a kid. So the early 90s was way more homophobic! But carrey is so good and does the best walks

Then last night was Eddie Murphy night with coming to America (first time) and trading places (5th time I guess). Coming to America was really good and I lost my poo when I found out he was the old Jewish guy. Eddie just cracks me up by being Eddie.

And yeah trading places I enjoy so much and gives a cool explanation of trading as well in a very understandable way and I appreciate that. Dan ackroyd and Eddie do a great job at keeping you engaged as well as it's an entertaining story

Saw primal fear

Really good courtroom drama. Excellent acting by Edward Norton. Apparently this is his debut performance on screen too? Super impressed. I was engaged the whole way through.

And possession. I think it's a deeply personal work by the director. I have never seen such emotion portrayed on screen. The absolute mind wrenching anguish, hatred, frustration. Actress (forgotten her name) was brilliant. Not a movie for the faint of heart though. Sam Neill redeemed himself from the last movie I saw with him, omen 3

Saw It (1990)

It was 3 hours. Um. Slow paced. I kinda don't really get its cult status.

I was trying to think of a movie called 'Saw It' and was like "nope, never heard of that one"

It took a couple of minutes...

Hahaha sorry about that

Saw Wind River.

Some great acting, but definitely not a patch on Sicario. Tries to subvert tropes, but ends up straight up falling into them.

Jeremy Renner continues to fall into roles that make him look like a class act, but I'm not at all convinced, tbh.

Still, brings to light the modern day plight of indigenous Americans and reservations - I just wish it had more of the subtlety and nuance of Hell or High Water, when it comes to depicting the burdens of marginalised people.

the It miniseries is pretty bad. it's just got one great performance, from Curry, and everyone has latched on to that and remember the movie as good as him. it is not

I've loved Jeremy Renner since I saw him in Dahmer many years ago; he's a great actor.

I still have to see Wind River.

he was in a dahmer movie?
I have to see that

Yeah and he was excellent.

I was so pissed off when I was 12-13 and saw it the first time, because the other kids talked like it was so scary, and it sucked
