So I saw a poll today asking about weather or not video games have been good or bad for the world. I figured they have been bad because they make people counterproductive. It felt strange saying they because I'm in college to become a game developer. I have often thought "If I make a hit game and it gets famous, am I going to be ruining the futures of other kids in school, making them reject their studies to play it?" I hope not, but I know that without video games, my school experience would have been a lot more successful, I barely graduated high school but at least I'm doing good in college, right? Video games are my life, as bad as that sounds.

What do youthink?

No, games are not bad for the world. What are you, a paranoid mother?

They are counterproductive. They distract people. I love video games more than anyone here, but I understand what they do better than most people too.

video games seem to be very productive in terms of their intended goals

What is the point of any entertainment other than for distraction?

Video games are actually helpful with certain things.

Read a really sarcastic book recently called Everything Bad is Good For You. Overtly lauded the special skill sets developed by gaming but really ended up letting me know the world is getting dumber. The sleeper curve he called it.

There was a time when novels were thought a danger to youth. Maybe at some point someone will figure out a way to make videogames into some sort of more interactive form. Or not.

Because there's a 900 character limit per post
It would have told you this when you tried to post that

The counter said it was at 8-something.

Video games have also been shown to treat those with post-traumatic stress disorder.

the site is so pootily coded that the character counter doesn't take into account the fact that new lines are actually TWO characters, not one.
8 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Tuesday 6/25/13 - 1:41:31 AM EST (GMT-5)
Really should just make a 1000 character limit

oh, that's the best part
the limit actually is 1000 characters
new lines actually count as two characters to the database, but only one to the character counter

the limit when you went to make a post used to be 1000
but because the character counter is inaccurate, people would sometimes be cut off if they used enough new lines

rather than fixing the character counter, buddy just dropped the limit on the new post box by 100 characters

So buddy fixed the inefficiency by making it more inefficient...Genius.

The book did emphasize how video games enhance your real world ability to carry through w goals. But it was presented in a capitalist world where most goals are meaningless anyway. Tell me you don't play warcraft.
8 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Tuesday 6/25/13 - 1:52:17 AM EST (GMT-5)
The book was also really racist which made me lol
8 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Tuesday 6/25/13 - 1:54:07 AM EST (GMT-5)
I've heard of it, but no, not a warcrafter, or craftian, what I wonder is if there's a way to make a novelistic videogame of some kind.

CrowBlackSky, I posted that to facebook. You are amazing.
