Like I am constantly catching myself being a sinful asshole.

Imagine that!

A book trying to convince you to believe something saying negative things about people who don't!

It must be true then.

It remains mysterious though. No one really knows and it’s just the condition of man. It’s about worldliness and being at odds with worldliness while still having aspects of worldliness in yourself that you can never truly overcome.

But yeah there’s a few verses that do suggest that there are people actively working in the mind of worldliness. But the only call to action is humility and finding growth in tribulation. Still commands faith hope and charity as the nature of the Holy Spirit working in you.

Like you put on the helmet of salvation. You put on the breastplate of righteousness. The sword is just the Spirit.

Dying daily in worldliness and weakness being God’s strength made perfect. It’s not about destroying the enemy. It’s about being separated from worldliness. But it’s not about being able to eliminate worldliness.

14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.

16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

So CD, asking “saved from what?” wasn’t intended to mock, it’s a genuine question, albeit an incredulous one.

I hear this from Christians all the time; “I’ve been saved by the love of God” or “Jesus has saved me”, but from what I can see, what loving God has saved them from is what God will do to them if they *don’t* profess love for him.

To me, that sounds like an abusive relationship. And again, that’s not intended to mock, that is what it precisely looks like to me.

I appreciate the explanation. Again, I apologize for taking it the wrong way.

I believe that it goes beyond a profession of love, and final damnation has been compared to divorce.

I guess I should let Postal explain further, he practices a different type of Christianity than I, so I don't feel I know it well enough to go into detail about what it means to 'be saved'.

Let’s be specific- saved from *being sent* to hell by the “all loving, perfectly good, omni-benevolent” God.

'sent' implies that Hell is a physical place/destination rather than the state of being separated from G-d.

If god is omnipotent then all things that happen are caused by him so it’s reasonable language to say that people in hell are sent there by him.

Hell is supposed to be a punishment for people who make life on Earth hell for others. Do you think people who torture and kill other people should go to Heaven with everybody else?

There’s actually a verse from the gospels that says you should fear him who has power to cast into hell.

And according to the Scofield annotations it is referring to God. Fearing God is still a thing in Christianity. The dispensation of grace does require repentance.

Also God doesn’t require that you love him. We can’t really love him because we can’t really. His love is for us. He receives no honor from men. No one seeks God. We can have knowledge of God’s love but we are fallen and only reconciled through Christ.

That isn't what Christians believe. Humans are created with free will.

I’m a bit of a predestination guy myself. God’s sovereignty can be viewed as absolute.

Good, loving, wonderful people who don't believe in Jesus are sent to hell according to the game you play

I heard a sermon by a Catholic priest one Sunday saying "Just because you're Catholic doesn't mean you're automatically going to Heaven. And just because you aren't Catholic doesn't automatically mean you're going to hell."

My personal belief is that actions speak louder than words. I think even atheists can get into heaven if they had lived a good and righteous life. Assuming there is a heaven and a life after death.

that's essentially my own stance. there are good and bad people in every belief system.

The different denominations of Christianity have differing opinions on this issue.

The Bible says that Jesus said "I am the Way, the Truth and the Light. No man comes to the Father but by me."

In other words, believe In Jesus or go to hell.

If your denomination teaches anything else it isn't Christianity, it's picking and choosing to get more asses in pews.

Spoken like a former Fundamentalist Christian. There are many Christians that disagree.

I'm just repeating what the bible actually says
