Welcome!

I think 3 book club threads is a record for YT. I don't think any other club has had the lasting power of this one- - thanks Hammy. I'd thank Sleepy too, but it seems like she turned into a slacker lately...

My progress has been slow on this one- - I'm almost to chapter 5. Hope to pick up the pace though.

It's such a detailed story! So interesting though. I like all the descriptions of other people, like the boat guys
2 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Sunday 5/12/19 - 6:47:46 PM EST (GMT-5)
i love the boat guys. it really started working for me when the aliens started getting weirder

i love the way he sketches out the ways their cultures evolve

I have to keep reminding myself that this book was written before WWII
His talk of eugenics and world strife are very interesting in light of that

I'm kind of having a love-hate thing with this book.

Where are you at in Star Maker, Hammy?

I've only got a couple of chapters left. I'm glad I decided to stick with it- - I'm liking the end...
2 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Thursday 5/30/19 - 12:29:27 AM EST (GMT-5)
I've still got a fair bit left. I'll have to crack on I guess it'll give you time to think of your book choice
2 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Thursday 5/30/19 - 12:45:59 AM EST (GMT-5)

I wouldn't bet on it CD's choices aren't always that easy to get into!
2 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Thursday 5/30/19 - 5:02:10 AM EST (GMT-5)
Oh dear. I feel like I'm destined to forever be on the periphery of this book club.

Star maker isnt due back until september i have no idea why so long. Maybe I'll read it eventually
2 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Thursday 5/30/19 - 7:27:58 AM EST (GMT-5)
I'm thinking of picking Treasure Island, Berlin Alexanderplatz, or Cropper's Cabin...

...or maybe NicolesLove can pick the next.

Has anyone heard from Sleepy since she sold her soul to Corporate America?
2 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Thursday 5/30/19 - 8:26:19 AM EST (GMT-5)
Treasure island sounds like a great choice! I've never read it unabridged!

I doubt Sleepy's ever coming back
2 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Thursday 5/30/19 - 8:45:24 AM EST (GMT-5)
i'm not sure berlin alexanderplatz would be a good book group book - i don't want to be blamed again!

You are the club scapegoat. We can't blame Hammy or Sleepy...

She’s super busy. I talked to her last week. (One of her short story inspire me for a novella, so I wanted to ask permission).

I still can't believe she puts her personal life, career and success ahead of Book Club...

Are you going to publish anything in English Abz?

But honestly, my last novel would work much better in English.
2 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Thursday 5/30/19 - 11:13:40 AM EST (GMT-5)
Sorry, I don't mean to pressure you. It's just that I'd love to pick up a copy when it comes out.
2 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Thursday 5/30/19 - 3:59:47 PM EST (GMT-5)
French Canadian writers are rarely translated.
2 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Thursday 5/30/19 - 4:08:17 PM EST (GMT-5)
Then maybe I'll just have to have a French language book on my shelf- - which is good. I like the pretentiousness of it.
