Downloaded this book eight days ago. Didn't realize at the time that this was a collection of 21 short stories. But that's cool! My New Year's Resolution is always to read more Stephen King books and I set a goal of reading at least three of his books. And my mom gave me a $25 Barnes and Noble gift card for Epiphany. I spent it right away and downloaded this as well as Carrie and his latest, Elevation. It's almost like downloading 23 books with all of these being short stories.

I decided to read the short stories first. The first story is Mile 81. Yikes. Gee, I might be afraid to drive out to New England to visit my friend now. This one takes place on I-95. I take that to Portsmouth, NH. The section of it in this book probably takes place in Maine if I had to guess, though. Seems like King's stories usually do. Might want to stay away from abandoned cars, ladies and germs. Especially if it's covered in mud inside and out. The car might eat you.

Recommend? I love King. Like... Love. His novels really formed the base of my teenage reading. But I've also been really hit or miss on some of his newer stuff.

Well, these short stories are interesting. So far, only the first one is the only really horrific one. The next two were things that didn't seem out of the ordinary. I mean, the one where the guy's wife died had him reacting kind of tacky, but there are probably situations where that's happened. Another was about a road rage incident, and I've heard the stories where those have gotten out of hand. Bad Little Kid was bizarre. And apparently two of the stories are actually narrative poems he wrote. I couldn't really make sense of Bone Church. That's about as far as I got. The next short story is Morality.

Ironically, one of the short stories is titled Under the Weather, and I just happened to finish that as I came down with a cold. Of course, without possibly spoiling, the character that was "under the weather" was more than just under the weather. I'm glad I wasn't THAT bad.
